4/3/13: Been giving blood for 60 years. This is the most friendly fun time I've ever had. Just wish I could give more often. Still miss the shot of brandy or the beer they gave you years ago. Progress!!
4/6/13: I am here today to be of service to my fellows. For much of my life I was an active alcoholic and addict - selfish, uncaring and irresponsible. Many times people would help me, show me kindness or forgive me. I was sure I was in debt and would ask "how can I pay you back?" They would always say "oh, you'll do it for someone else." I never did - helping others got in the way of my time drinking and using.
The day came when it all fell apart; I had hurt so many people and I looked in the mirror and knew I hated who I saw there. I wanted to die. Instead, oddly enough, God brought me to recovery instead. I have been given another chance and a new way of life. I could work for others every day for the rest of my life and never pay back what I have been given - but that is ok...it keeps me trying. So, that is why I give blood - to say thank you to all of you everywhere.
4/4/13: Thank you Allene for taking wonderful care of my children so I could donate today. My future donors will always encourage me to come back since they had all the goodies! Keep up all the great work! Working on getting my gallon, three more times!
4/11/13: This was a terrific experience that made me more aware of the giving blood experience. The staff was very aware and talkative and I felt comfortable throughout the whole session. I will recommend giving blood to my friends and family! Thanks! This is my first time donating and I will definitely come back again.
5/2/13: I also have to start off by saying that this place has one of the best staff teams in Humboldt County! So cheerful and so comforting! Now that I know this place exists, I'll definitely be in here to donate whenever I am eligible. The reason I donate is because my older brother and sister have sickle cell anemia and if you don't know, that disease requires many blood transfusions. Some people are doing their part by donating and saving my siblings lives, I figure I can do the same. Thanks again, keep up the good work!
5/30/13: I was a fainter! My dad gave for years but after having cancer he was unable to donate. Quietly I took over his donation schedule. My goal was to have him come to the blood bank and see my name next to his on the big board. He passed with me being one donation short. Years have passed since August 1st, 2006 and my name has passed upward with my continued tradition of donating! That's my story! THE END : )
6/21/13: Today the whole family came in! My older brother and sister, myself, my younger sister and my older sister's boyfriend all donated. Even my youngest sister came to support! The process went very smoothly and the staff were so nice and caring, and very friendly. We can't wait to come back again!
7/5/13: Donated in honor of my husband. Wayne, I will love you until the end of time. RIP: July 2, 2013
8/9/13: Such a simple way to save a life. It's quick, (almost) painless and easy to do!
8/14/13: Giving blood and knowing that I have the potential to save someone's life by simply taking an hour out of my day is one of the greatest feelings. NCCBB is such a great place! The staff is wonderful, welcoming, and supportive! Plus, where else do they thank you with food and drinks? I love donating and I love coming here. I hope that many others find out how rewarding this experience is and decide to donate themselves. NCCBB rocks! Much love!
9/5/13: After spending years with severe anxiety when it comes to needles, I finally tried donating whole blood two months ago. Didn't hurt at all (yay) so I switched to donating platelets every 2-3 weeks. I feel great afterwards and it's nice to know my products are helping people.
9/5/13: Thank you to my beloved vampires! Everyone is so nice here! Hereditary Hemochromatosis must be the only disease where the treatment is free and can help others at the same time! Blessings to all of you...feeling grateful!
9/17/13: GOT TO DONATE!! YAY!! I gave as much as I could and also got paperwork to become a bone marrow donor. Think about it, you could save even more lives!
10/30/13: In memory of Oscar Camacho; he can't be here to donate so we are giving five units for him today and will continue on donating in his memory.
12/27/13: I'm 50 years young. I went to the doctor for a full body scan for any moles - skin cancers. He found a mark he wanted to remove, I couldn't donate as I waited for the results. I was more concerned of me not being able to see the great workers here at the blood bank than the results. I'm here because I'm cancer free! Very blessed and grateful of the negative results...and being able to give the gift that keeps on giving! Merry Christmas to all and a fantastic New Year!
2/12/14: My son-in-law's sister died of leukemia. Her last words of advice, "Love your children and donate platelets." So I donate platelets whenever I can.
2/14/14: After donating 50 units, suddenly this year my vein kept collapsing mysteriously! I almost gave up trying but thanks to the great staff here and our (mine, too) patience we were successful once again. God bless you, staff!
